Federal Energy Management Agency (FEMA) deployed the Special Watermaker Unit of Offshore Marine Labs. to Mississippi to aid Hurricane victims. The unit is capable of producing 4000 gallons of fresh drinking water per day. It is completely mobile and does not need electricity because the pump is run by a diesel motor. In addition, FEMA also deployed the smaller backpack unit, the Thirst Quencher, capable of producing 400 gallons of water to various locations.
